Turning ashes to diamonds is becoming increasingly popular for several reasons. As well as providing people with a sentimental way to hold onto the memory of lost loved ones, turning ashes into diamonds is also a very affordable option for anyone suffering a great loss.
Dignity Funerals states that on average, a burial in the UK costs £5,033, while a cremation in the UK costs £3,885. This is a significant difference of £1,148 — money which you could put to much better use.
In 2021, many of us are looking to cut back on our spending wherever we can. And while no one wants to be overly frugal when it comes to funerals, turning ashes into a diamond could provide an affordable solution for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one.

Transforming your loved one who has passed on into a beautiful genuine diamond is a unique way to keep their memory alive. As the surviving family member or friend, you can find a sense of solace and tranquility by keeping a physical piece of your loved one close to you at all times.
If you’ve recently lost someone close to you and you’re not ready to say a final goodbye, turning their ashes into a memorial diamond could be a comforting solution. To help you decide if this is an affordable choice for you, here’s an in-depth guide on the price of turning ashes to diamonds in the UK.
The cost of a memorial diamond in the UK depends primarily on three factors:
If you’re planning to turn your memorial diamond into a piece of jewellery, as most people do, you also need to take into consideration the price of the pendant, earring or ring setting. This is often priced separately to the memorial diamond, as there are many customisable choices available.
Colour
Orange-yellow diamonds are the cheapest, followed by yellow-green and then deep red. Blue and white diamonds are the most expensive, however there isn’t much of a difference in the price between the final two.
Our orange-yellow diamonds cost between £515 and £8,745, depending on the carat size and diamond cut. Our white diamonds cost between £1,700 and £9,850, taking the same factors into consideration.
Carat size
The carat size determines how large or small the diamond will be. The higher the carat size, the larger and more expensive the diamond. The lower the carat size, the smaller and cheaper the diamond.
Our smallest diamond is 0.03-0.09 carats which costs £515, while our largest diamond is 2 carats which can cost as much as £10,995, depending on the diamond colour.
Cut
The cut of a diamond is the shape. At Heart In Diamond we offer three shapes as standard: brilliant, princess and radiant. Due to their shape, some diamond cuts are only available in certain carat sizes.
For example, if you wanted a brilliant orange-yellow cut diamond, you could choose any carat size between 0.03 and 1 carats. This would cost £515-£4,400. But if you wanted a blue diamond in a brilliant cut, you’d have to choose between 0.10 and 1 carats, costing £1,700-£9,550.
Setting
When turning ashes into diamonds, most people have the diamonds placed into a setting so they can keep the person they want to remember close at all times. The price of jewellery settings varies hugely according to the type of jewellery, complexity of the design and the metal type.
You can purchase a simple earring setting for your diamonds in 9k yellow gold for as little as £399, or spend more than £3,000 for a highly-detailed platinum setting for a diamond ring.
All diamonds, whether mined or lab-grown, are made from 100% pure carbon. Heart In Diamond’s UK laboratory extracts the pure form of carbon from ashes. This pure carbon is then added to a diamond-growing matrix foundation.
Once prepared, the combination is placed inside of our HPHT (high-pressure high-temperature) machine. This sophisticated technology has the power to grow a real diamond from a carbon sample by mimicking the same conditions found deep within the Earth’s crust. By using temperatures exceeding 2,000℃ and pressure in excess of 60,000 atmospheres, a rough diamond is created.

Price shouldn’t be the first thing you consider when planning a funeral, but it’s something everyone needs to think about. As the cost of burial plots and the associated funeral services continues to rise in the uk, making diamonds from the cremated remains becomes a better solution for many people each year.
If you’ve recently lost someone close to you, consider turning their ashes into a beautiful piece of diamond jewellery. Not only will you have a unique keepsake to remember them by, but it could also turn out to be a more affordable solution than a traditional burial.
