How are ashes turned into jewellery?
Turning ashes into jewellery in the UK is a fine art and the finished product needs to meet very strict regulations. Because of this we make our cremation diamonds in our exclusive production facility, imitating the exact same process the Earth uses to make diamonds underground.
Our highly-skilled and highly-qualified engineers specialise in producing beautiful diamonds which are 100% genuine in terms of their physical, visual and chemical properties. It’s impossible to distinguish one of our cremation diamonds from a mined diamond through the eye alone. Only a diamond specialist with sophisticated equipment is able to tell them apart.
Here’s how our creation process works:
- Request your Heart In Diamond order kit and design your personal diamond made from ashes.
- When we receive your details, we issue you with a unique Heart In Diamond ID which you can use to track the progress of your order.
- We analyse the ashes of your loved one and extract pure carbon from the sample.
- The carbon is added to a diamond growing foundation, out of which a crystalline matrix grows.
- An HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) machine is used to recreate the diamond growing conditions which occur deep within the Earth’s crust.
- After 70-120 days of being inside the HPHT machine, the ashes are transformed into a genuine rough diamond.
- Our specialists cut and polish your diamond according to industry standards and your requests.
- Your unique diamond goes through a strict quality control and grading process. An Authenticity Certificate is created, containing all the details about your diamond.
- The diamond is placed within your chosen jewellery setting and is delivered to your door.
How much ashes do you need to make jewellery?
You need 100g of cremains for ashes jewelry in the UK. As ashes generally weigh around 3.5% of a person’s original body weight, most people have more than enough cremated remains to turn into jewellery.
However, if your loved one’s ashes are being shared between several people or you want to turn pet ashes into diamonds, you might find that you fall short of the 100g needed.
If you don’t have enough ashes, you can still make a cherished piece of cremation jewellery. We’ll simply add generic carbon to the carbon extracted from the cremated ashes. The carbon we add won’t affect the carbon of your loved one and the final piece of jewellery will still contain their essence.
How much does it cost to turn ashes into a diamond in the UK?
According to Dignity Funerals, the average cost of a cremation in the UK is £3,885. This includes the fees associated with the crematorium, minister or celebrant, funeral director and paperwork. At Heart In Diamond, our cremation diamonds begin at just £515. This means it could cost as little as £4,400 to make ashes jewellery in the UK.
Reassured notes that if you have your loved one buried as part of a direct cremation, without a ceremony, you could cut your total costs down to £2,069. A direct cremation is the cheapest type of funeral, as there’s no official service or ceremony held before the cremation.
Instead of having a minister conduct a ceremony prior to the cremation, you can conduct one yourself with close friends and family after the cremation. You only need a tiny portion of ashes to make a diamond. You can save the rest to bury in an urn, scatter somewhere significant or share amongst other family members so everyone can have their own unique memorial diamond.
Turning ashes into a diamond in the UK is actually cheaper than having a loved one buried. The average cost of a burial in the UK is £5,033, £633 more expensive than the costs for a complete cremation and the process of turning ashes into jewellery combined.
Funerals can be a sudden and unexpected expense for many people. To help make your finances easier to manage at this challenging time, we offer interest-free payment plans. With one of our plans, you can put down a 25% deposit at the time of ordering and pay the rest of the cost off in simple monthly installments without incurring any interest charges.

Turning ashes into jewellery for pets
Turning ashes into jewellery isn’t just for family and friends who have passed away. It’s also a wonderful way of remembering the special bond you had with your cherished pet. Creating a gorgeous orange-yellow diamond in honour of your fluffy ginger cat or a pair of dazzling blue diamonds to remind you of the striking eyes of your loyal husky makes a great keepsake.
The process of turning ashes into jewellery in the UK for pets is the same as it is for humans. We need 100g of cremated ashes or 10g of fur. If you don’t have the amount of ashes or fur necessary, please let us know and we can supplement your sample with our own neutral carbon to create your diamond.
